React Native developer in India (2026): roadmap, MERN back end and salary

React Native is how a JavaScript developer builds real Android and iOS apps. You write one codebase in JavaScript or TypeScript, and it runs as a native app on both platforms. Meta, Microsoft and Shopify use it in production, and many Indian startups use it because the same team can work on the website and the app.

Why add MERN to React Native?

Almost every real app needs a back end: user accounts, a database, payments, notifications. A React Native developer who can only call someone else's API depends on a back-end team. One who can build the API with Node.js, Express and MongoDB can deliver a complete product alone — which is exactly what startups, agencies and freelance clients want. It also opens MERN full stack web roles, because the back end is the same.

React Native developer salary in India

• Fresher (0–1 year): ₹3.5 – ₹6.5 LPA
• 2–4 years: ₹7 – ₹16 LPA
• 5–8 years: ₹16 – ₹30 LPA

These are typical ranges, not promises. Developers who can show a published app with its own back end usually start at the upper end of the fresher band, and full stack mobile skills are in steady demand for freelance work from small businesses.

What to learn, in order

1. JavaScript and TypeScript. Modern syntax, arrays and objects, promises and async/await, then types. Most React Native bugs are really JavaScript bugs.
2. React. Components, props, state and hooks. Learn this properly once and it works for web and mobile.
3. React Native with Expo. Core components, Flexbox layout, FlatList, and navigation with Expo Router.
4. State and forms. React Hook Form, Zod validation, Context and a store such as Redux Toolkit or Zustand.
5. The back end. Node.js and Express, MongoDB with Mongoose, JWT login, file uploads and deployment.
6. Connecting the two. Axios and TanStack Query, secure token storage, offline support.
7. Device features. Camera, location, maps and push notifications sent from your server.
8. Shipping. Testing, performance, EAS builds and publishing on the Play Store.
